Google’s library

For a long time now, Google has been a company which just doesnt seem to stop to baffle the world. From google Earth to the self-driving car, Google is constantly pushing the boundaries of our technological understanding. They think the impossible and then implement it. Seen Mission Impossible – Ghost Prototcol and remember the contact lens camera? I promise, that is not far off anymore.

Neither is google’s library project, the scanning of millions of books and making them available in summary form. Of course there are copyright issues involved here and the thought alone of how the legal implications could terminate everything would have stopped most companies in its tracks. Google just went ahead and a court in the US just held that the ‘snippets’ are covered by the fair-use provisions and hence legal.

Watch out then, we are one step away from another ‘wow’ moment.
