One law – one door

The Government is set to simplify the Consumer Law in New Zealand. In March Consumer Affairs Minister Heather Roy has announced that she intends to make consumer law more accessible by combining the various acts into one single act. Whether this act is going to be a code, is not clear at this stage. The acts affected and to be combined include the Consumer Guarantees Act, Fair Trading Act, Layby Sales Act, the Sale of Goods Act, the Auctioneers Act and the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act. If that project is going ahead, the result might just be another German BGB (Civil Code). Watch this space. Image courtesy of:
